At the founding of GDA in 1978, it was the intent of management to provide consulting services to clients, but to also pursue geothermal project opportunities that were not then recognized as such by others. Today, domestically and internationally, GDA, alone or jointly with others, approach a potential project, undertake a preliminary due diligence, and if the risk/reward appears highly appealing, will pursue that project.

For example, in its early years, GDA recognized the potential of a 30-acre utility-owned parcel at theSteamboat Springs KGRA near Reno, Nevada. GDA, acting alone, undertook the geologic and geophysical surveys, acquired the lease, negotiated the power purchase agreement, and attracted the capital to drill the successful discovery well. GDA and its management currently retain a net revenue interest and an overriding royalty on the original 5 MW plant, built in 1985, now expanded to 8.4. MW.
