Resource conditions may allow consideration of other plant designs, including a dual flash plant which produces steam at two different pressures, allowing conversion of more of the brine to steam, resulting in increased power generation. Resource characteristics may also allow plant configurations of combined flash and binary designs. It is not uncommon that removal of too much heat from the brine, with the objective of maximizing power output, will cause scaling (precipitation of minerals from the fluid) within the geothermal system, above and/or below ground. A careful balance is required to minimize scaling and maximize power generation.
